bash is looking for a missing ' " ' , unexpected EOF

Solution 1

The problem is in your line 120. You are right there is a missing '"' and you should add it there.

When you add the '"' at the end of line 120 then line 120 alters your PATH environment variable in a way it shouldn't. It overrides the PATH and does not take care about previous value of PATH. The correct line 120 would be:

export PATH="/home/chill/android-studio/bin:$PATH"

Take a look at other similar lines and you will notice there is always ":$PATH" at the end. That means that you only add a new directory to already existing list of directories in the $PATH. Your line 120 just overrides PATH with one directory. With $PATH at the end your sudo will work too. Not just the bashrc script.

Solution 2

Pasting the code in ShellCheck reveals the problem:

120 export PATH="/home/chill/android-studio/bin
^––SC1078 Did you forget to close this double quoted string?

121 export PATH="$HOME/.rbenv/bin:$PATH"
^––SC1079 This is actually an end quote, but due to next char it looks suspect.

So you need to add a closing double quote in this line:

export PATH="/home/chill/android-studio/bin

becoming this:

export PATH="/home/chill/android-studio/bin"
                                           ^

I have problem with bash which is looking for a missing character but I cannot find it. Maybe there is something else wrong?

Every time I open the terminal I get this error:

bash: /home/chill/.bashrc: line 132: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `"'

The contents of the .bashrc file:

The only missing " I can find is on line 120 but if I complement it with the " then sudo stops working.

I must be missing something or just plain not understanding. Any suggestions?

Can you detail the steps to integrate shellcheck in vim + syntastic ? There is almost no info on the GitHub where I found it. I run Trusty 14.04.3 and vim 7.4. Tx.
