Solution 1

If running on Windows, you may give Microsoft Consolas a shot (included in Vista or later, and available as a separate download). I use it everywhere.

Solution 2

I'm a huge fan of Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, which I use at 9pt.

It's available here: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/ttf-bitstream-vera/1.10/

Solution 3

First hit on google:

Monospace/Fixed Width Programmer's Fonts

Solution 4

I definitely second the suggestion for Consolas font on Windows. On Windows, I love it.

Solution 5

I just tried Dina vs Consolas. Dina looks better in size 8 without ClearType, but as soon as I activated ClearType on my 24" 1920x1200 TFT, Consolas was really brilliant, and in size 8 it consumes significantly less space than Dina, i.e. more editor contents fit on the screen. Because I am still on Win XP, I had to download Consolas separately.

The default Courier New 10pt is larger than necessary for me. However, using that font at 8pt does not look very good.

Are there better choices for a more readable, very small (e.g., 8pt) font for eclipse?

in this list, I prefer Monoco (both for Eclipse in Ubuntu or Visual Studio in Windows)
