No resource identifier found for attribute 'layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf' in package

I am using the Android SDK 2.2.3. I am following a book on programming Android.

The code is:

I have tried three different examples with the android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout and in all cases do I get the same error message:

Error:(13) No resource identifier found for attribute 'layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf' in package 'eu.a123sandberg.webview'

The build.gradle file contains:

What do I have to do to resolve the error?

I have googled the error and not been able to find a suggestion that resolves the error.

Please help.

ConstraintLayout is not part of AppCompat. It's a standalone library.

Add the dependency in your build.gradle file

implementation 'com.android.support.constraint:constraint-layout:1.1.3' 

and click Sync now.

Solution 2

I had the same problem, adding this line to build.gradle(module app) solved it.

compile 'com.android.support.constraint:constraint-layout:1.1.0-beta3'

Configuration 'compile' is obsolete and has been replaced with 'implementation' and 'api'. So use, implementation 'com.android.support.constraint:constraint-layout:1.1.3'
