What are the best WiFi settings for my situation?

Question

I am looking for a way, how to replace attribute value in XML node, where the issue with an attribute is, that its name is generated dynamically.

As an example, I can have two different XML files containing something like this

As you can see, there is actually a difference in name. xmlns:p vs xmlns:p2. The thing is, that it can be called anyhow. It can even be xmlns:ABC. What I am trying to do is to create some kind of ReferenceChanger class, that will fix the reference in all XAML files at once. So far I was thinking about something like this:

One thing, that is certain is, that this wrong value is (and always will be) only in root element and not in any other element.

Solution 1

First, ensure that the router is off the floor and away from walls and metal objects (such as metal file cabinets).

As regarding channels: Just try them all one-by-one at a time when the neighbors are probably at home.

Idea number 2 is probably the best, to enhance your router's wireless antenna with aluminum foil : If your router is near an outside wall, half of the wireless signals will be sent outside your home, so much of your router's power is wasted.

I don't think you can use Channel 13, its made for Europe or something. Here's what you want to do:

Make a list on paper of all the networks, excluding the ones that are very weak.

Your basic channels are 1,6,11. Other channels overlap with each other.

If someone else uses channel 4, round it up to 6. Channel 3, round down to 1, and so on. Count all the numbers 1,6,11 people, then pick the lowest one, and choose that. This isn't scientific, I made it up just now.

To test reliability, run: ping -t or ping -t www.google.com

move around and see how much it varies in milliseconds.

Encryption type and other settings usually don't matter for speed, use WPA2-AES personal. You can also try decreasing the speed of the network, for example instead of 54mbps you can lower it to 36mbps but I don't know if that really helps stability.

Is this a Speedtouch DSL modem with builtin router? The wifi on these probably isn't excellent, that's probably the issue.

good tips, sure will do but what about hiding the ssid, changing the encryption type, password lenght, settings?

These are security settings that will not enhance reception. There are heaps of articles to be found about this subject. They are a good idea, especially in your case where among so many neighbors might also be a script-kiddo that may try cracking your network for fun.

You could also, firmware permitting, specify in the router MAC-locking so only your laptop can access the network. This can be spoofed, but putting your router to the maximal security setting may block this.
