What is grub2 default font?

Solution 1

The default font of grub2 in 12.04 is unicode.pf2. Check this command

grep -n font /boot/grub/grub.cfg

It is described in 45th line in grub.cfg file. The location of the font is /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2.

Update to include information from OP's comment:

OP wrote in a later comment,

In Grub Customizer on the right side there is a little red minus sign that removes the custom font. click that and hit save and boom back to the default font

Solution 2

The default grub font is not listed in the options of Grub Customizer.

But you can revert the changes you made by clicking the red "minus" button that is next to the font selection option in Grub Customizer.

I'm sure grub2's font isn't Ariel. Arial only get installed if you install msttfcorefonts-installer package.

Thanks for the help. I feel sheepish. I Grub Customizer on the right side there is a little red minus sign that removes the custom font. click that and hit save and boom back to the default font.

The font isn't a mermaid - it's called "Arial", not "Ariel"! XD

And how would I find that in a font picker? I can't find any font named "unicode.pf2"
